When was the last time you thought about your purpose, your calling, your “why”?
I remember a client asking me about my “why” after a long day of deep-thinking meetings around their business vision, purpose, passion, strategy, etc.
I was exhausted from all the brain cells fluttering and synapses synapsing… We’d just sat down to dinner and as my lovely cocktail was placed beautifully in front of me, my client asked, “Why do you do the work you do?”
Huh? I just really want to unwind from the mental gymnastics of the day…. But I decided to respond.
“I want to be famous,” I replied without missing a beat.
“Oh! So, it’s about ego!” He exclaimed, somehow seeming excited about cracking some mysterious code in my psyche.
“No,” I replied. “I seek to be on as big a stage as I can get, because that means I can help the most people. I can speak a message that will show people who need my message how to be confident, happy, clear, and in control over their career and voice. Being known (fame) gives me that.”
Inside each of us is a heart that beats. What’s yours beating to?

- What am I passionate about? What topics could I talk about for hours? What brings me joy and learning?
- What drives me? Am I motivated by success? money? serving others? challenging the status quo?
